CRAZY CAT COMEDY TO LAUNCH COMEDY CLUB AS PART OF THE BBC ARTS GET CREATIVE CAMPAIGN

The Belfast Barge is to host a monthly comedy club as part of Get Creative – a year-long celebration of British arts, culture and creativity.

Get Creative aims to boost creativity in the UK, as well as celebrating the millions of people already doing something artistic and creative everyday. The campaign was launched 19 February 2015, by BBC Arts in partnership with cultural movement What Next? and leading arts and cultural organisations across the country, including Culture at King’s, Voluntary Arts, 64 Million Artists, Fun Palaces, Cultural Learning Alliance and Arts Council England

Crazy Cat Comedy  is joining hundreds of organisations nationwide to become a Get Creative Champion.

The events, organised by Victoria Armstrong in partnership with the Belfast Barge will launch on 2nd April with a Music Comedy night and will last until December 2016.

The idea behind Crazy Cat’s events is to give local and national comedians a voice and a platform in Belfast, literally.  There is great work being done by open mic night organisers. They give comedy performers their first ‘gig’ so to speak and help them build up their sets with new material.  Crazy Cat Comedy is bridging the gap between the open mic nights and the bigger comedy clubs like the Empire and Queens Student Union.

Victoria Armstrong who nicknames her job title as ‘Chief Crazy Cat’  says ‘I’ve always been a comedy fan and it’s not an industry I ever thought I would work in.  However 4 years on and time and time again I’ve noticed that too many performers are falling into this ‘chasm’ or just giving up.  There is so much comedy talent in Northern Ireland and our humour is the best part of our culture so Crazy Cat Comedy is providing the support that is much needed here through 4 types of events:  fundraisers, corporate events, Crazy Cat comedy club and murder mystery comedy nights.”

Comedy fans in Northern Ireland can keep up to date with all Crazy Cat’s comedy events by following our facebook page at:  facebook.com/crazycatcomedy, twitter: @crazycat_comedy or sign up for our Crazy Cat ‘Mewsletter’  by visiting: www.crazycatcomedy.com

Get Creative will also have its digital home on BBC Arts online and through the use of #bbcgetcreative on social media sites.  Visit www.bbc.co.uk/getcreative for more details.
